MEMORIAL HALL, --The Delaware State men's basketball team saw all five starters reach double figures in points and beat the Loyola (MD) Greyhounds 80-77 at home Saturday.
The Hornets (4-6) had five players score in double figures, led by Martaz Robinson, who had 15 points and seven rebounds. Kaseem Watson added 14 points and two steals and Alston Andrews chipped in as well with 13 points and two steals.
Delaware State took advantage of excellent ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 17 assists on 31 made field goals. Individually, Corey Perkins was on top of the distribution list for the Hornets with seven assists and Robert Smith also added four assists of his own.
Delaware State forced 14 Loyola (MD) turnovers. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 14 points on the offensive end of the floor. Watson's two steals led the way for Delaware State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 25-17, Delaware State went on an 8-0 run with 9:22 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Perkins, to tie the game at 25. The Hornets then proceeded to grab a 33-30 lead heading into halftime. Delaware State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 24 of its 33 points close to the basket.
Loyola (MD) proceeded to take a 63-56 lead before Delaware State went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 63-62 with 7:41 to go in the contest. The Hornets kept the rally going and took the lead for good on Braeden Speed's layup with 00:15 left for an 80-77 comeback victory. Delaware State took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 47 points in the lane.
