UNCASVILLE, CT --The Delaware State men's basketball team shot 50 percent from beyond the arc on the way to an 83-80 win against the Alabama State Hornets at Mohegan Sun Arena Friday.
The Hornets (7-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Robert Smith, who had 26 points. Martaz Robinson added 23 points, six rebounds and two steals and Kaseem Watson helped out with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Delaware State offense was very productive from three point land, making nine threes on 18 attempts. Smith was the most prolific shooter for the Hornets, draining seven treys in the contest.
How It Happened
After falling behind 10-8, Delaware State went on a 10-0 run with 12:45 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Smith, to take an 18-10 lead. The Hornets then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 40-34 advantage.
Delaware State kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Watson's layup, to grow the lead to 58-50 with 9:14 to go in the contest. The Hornets narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hornets still held on for the 83-80 win.
