AUSTIN, TX --Robert Smith scored 22 points, but the Delaware State men's basketball team fell to the Texas Longhorns 90-68 on the road Friday.
The Hornets (3-5) had four players score in double figures, led by Smith, who had 22 points. Martaz Robinson tacked on 15 points, six rebounds and two steals and Kaseem Watson helped out with a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Delaware State out-rebounded Texas 41-37 in Friday's game, led by Watson's 10 boards. The Hornets also grabbed 14 offensive rebounds and scored 14 second chance points.
How It Happened
Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 41-22 heading into halftime.
Texas kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 69-46 advantage before Delaware State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Corey Perkins' three, to shrink the deficit to 69-51 with 7:58 to go in the contest. Texas responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 90-68. Delaware State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 12 of its 46 total points.
