DOVER, DE --Martaz Robinson secured a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds to help the Delaware State men's basketball team knock off the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins 70-54 at home Tuesday.
The Hornets (1-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Robinson, who had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Corey Perkins tacked on 14 points and eight assists off the bench and Kaseem Watson chipped in as well with 13 points.
Robinson pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace the Delaware State offense which grabbed 12 boards and turned them into seven second chance points.
Delaware State did a great job disrupting Gwynedd Mercy shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Muneer Newton's three rejections led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened
After falling behind 4-0, Delaware State went on a 6-0 run with 17:47 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Robert Smith, to take a 6-4 lead. The Hornets then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 34-32.

After intermission, Delaware State managed to gain control and had a 63-53 lead before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Smith's jumper, to grow the lead to 70-53 with 2:36 to go in the contest. The Griffins narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hornets still cruised the rest of the way for the 70-54 win. Delaware State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 10 of its 38 total points.
