DOVER -- Saint Francis (PA) rallied from an 11-point third quarter deficit to defeat Delaware State 28-17 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
The Red Flash improved to 2-3 on the season while the Hornets dropped to 1-5.
Jaden Sutton led all Hornets rushers with 60 yards and one touchdown in the contest, picking up 4.3 yards per carry. Jayden Jenkins also added 47 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 6.7 yards per carry.
NyGhee Lolley pulled in eight catches for 95 yards.
Eric Montes showed out for the Delaware State defense, totaling four tackles and one recovered fumble. Darren Cook added three tackles and one recovered fumble and Kyree Benton had one recovered fumble in the loss.
The Hornets won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing three turnovers while avoiding any giveways, with Delaware State turning those takeaways into 10 points.
Defensively, Delaware State held up fairly well against the Saint Francis (PA) passing attack, holding the Red Flash to 119 yards through the air. In part because of that stellar defense, Delaware State receivers out-gained their Saint Francis (PA) counterparts 169-119.
How It Happened
JMU found itself down early 6-0, but responded to take a 7-6 lead with 13:34 remaining in the second quarter.The Hornets then followed with another score to extend the lead to 10-6.
Delaware State then added a touchdown with 5:18 remaining in the third quarter to make it a 17-6 lead. Delaware State went scoreless the rest of the game while Saint Francis (PA) tacked on 22 points to finish off the scoring.
