DOVER, DE --The Delaware State men's basketball team got a 32-point performance from the bench, but fell 69-66 to the North Carolina Central Eagles at home Monday.

The Hornets (10-11, 3-2) had two players score in double figures, led by Jevin Muniz, who had 24 points. Khyrie Staten tacked on 11 points and two steals off of the bench and Wesley Oba added seven points and four assists.

Delaware State forced 18 North Carolina Central turnovers while committing 16 themselves in Monday's game. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 22 points on the other end of the floor. Staten's two steals led the way for Delaware State.

How It Happened

After falling behind 21-15, Delaware State went on a 5-0 run with 4:33 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 21-20. North Carolina Central answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Hornets down 34-25 entering halftime.

After intermission, Delaware State managed to gain control and had a 45-44 lead before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Muniz's three, to grow the lead to 53-44 with 6:28 to go in the contest. North Carolina Central then asserted control, outscoring the Hornets 25-13 the rest of the way to hand Delaware State the 69-66 loss. Delaware State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 41 points in the lane. The Delaware State bench came alive by adding 32 points to its scoring output. The Delaware State defense forced 18 turnovers.

The Hornets will return to action Saturday, February 3 when they travel to Norfolk State University in continued MEAC Conference play. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
