Hornets fall to Eagles in series opener

DOVER, Del. --- The Delaware State baseball team dropped a 12-7 Northeast Conference (NEC) contest to open its three-game series with Coppin State on Friday.

Coppin State established an early 1-0 lead to start the game but back-to-back RBI knocks from Krew Bouldin and Chris Amparo put Delaware State up 2-1 through the first frame of action.

The Hornets added a pair of runs through over the course of the second and third innings to extend the lead by three runs for a 4-1 game after the front third of the game.

After a scoreless fourth inning from both teams, Coppin State put up a nine-spot in the fifth inning to regain the lead and did not concede for the remainder of the game.

Delaware State rallied for three more runs in the later innings but a five-run deficit would be as close to the lead as the Hornets would see for the rest of the game.

Offensively, Amparo, Evan Bouldin, Krew Bouldin and Jancarlos Colon all recorded multi-hit games in the loss. Amparo drove home a team-high two runs while Colon, Krew Bouldin, Trey Paige and Robert Trujillo all accounted for the rest of the Delaware State RBIs.

Delaware State and Coppin State will complete the series on Sunday with a doubleheader as the remainder of the series has been adjusted due to weather in the area on Saturday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 p.m. with game two set to take place approximately 30 minutes after game one has ended.
