EASTON, Mass. --- The Delaware State baseball team dropped a pair of Northeast Conference (NEC) contests by scores of 3-0 and 10-5 in Saturday's doubleheader that also wrapped up this three-game series.
Â
In game one,
Evan Bouldin paced the offensive with a pair of hits while
Krew Bouldin,
Jancarlos Colon and
Nick Gnardellis all recorded a hit in the first game.
Â
Stonehill was led by reigning NEC Rookie of the Week who also notched a two-hit game, one of which broke the scoreless seal in the bottom of the seventh. Blaine Lidsky accounted for the second Skyhawk RBI just one batter later by way of a sacrifice bunt.
Â
Stonehill senior southpaw Matt Tyman went the distance for the home team in the opening matchup. He countered his five hits and three walks with six strikeouts as he kept Delaware State off the board as his team evened the series at one all heading into the series finale on the back end of the doubleheader. Â
Â
Krew Bouldin got the scoring started early in the second game of the doubleheader with an RBI-single that brought home
Wilfredo Mendez for a 1-0 game through the first inning.
Â
After being held scoreless to start, Stonehill put up nine unanswered runs highlighted by an eight-run third inning. Jack Marshall was responsible for half of his team's runs during the third frame as he belted a grand slam over the left field wall as the Skyhawks established a 9-1 lead after the first third of this contest.
Â
Delaware State attempted to claw back in the later innings with RBI-hits coming from
Krew Bouldin,
Mason Brewer and
Trey Paige but a five-run deficit would be as close to the lead as the Hornets would get in the series finale.
Â
Krew Bouldin led the offensive efforts in the series finale with a game-high three hits while driving in a pair of runs. Paige also recorded a multi-hit and multi-RBI performance at the plate.
Â
Delaware State returns to action on Friday for a three-game NEC series with LIU. The series opener is currently scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bob Reed Field. Â
