Dover, Del. (Feb. 28, 2023) --- Visiting St. Peter's took two games from Delaware State today, posting an 8-2 victory in the opener and a 5-2 win in the nightcap. In game one, St. Peter's scored first with four runs in the top of the third inning. The Hornets got one back in the bottom of the fourth when
Chandler Martin singled with one out, and pinch runner
Kayla Lester scored on a two-out triple by
Britney Phally. Delaware State added another run in the fourth when Uxua Lopez drew a one-out walk and scored on a two-out single by
Dallas Speicher-Ramirez to cut the Peahens' lead to 4-2. St. Peter's put the game out of reach with three runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh.
The Peahens also grabbed the early lead in game two, scoring three runs in the top of the third inning. The Hornets answered with two runs in the bottom of then fourth.
Felicity Munoz singled to lead off the inning and scored the Hornets' first run of the game when Lopez followed with a triple to center. Joie Raibourn singled in Lopez to cut St. Peter's lead to 3-2. The Peahens added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to close out the scoring. Munoz had two of Delaware State's six hits in game two.
The Hornets (2-10) return to action on Saturday (Mar. 4) with a home doubleheader against Lincoln (Pa.). Game is scheduled to get underway at 12:00 p.m.
