Felicity Munoz was five-for-seven with four runs scored, while
Mayanah McIntosh and
Sydney Hoffman tossed complete games to lead Delaware State to a doubleheader sweep of Bowie State today. The Hornets came from behind to win the opener 6-4, and completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory in game two.
In game one, Delaware State trailed 4-2 before putting four on the board in the bottom of the fifth.
Chandler Martin doubled in the first two runs of the inning to tie the game at 4-4.
Sanaa Brown followed with a double to score Martin to give the Hornets a 5-4 lead.
Mikaela Francois singled in Brown to put Delaware State ahead by two.
Munoz was two for three with a stolen base and two runs scored in the opener, while Martin had two hits in two at bats and the two RBI in game one. Hoffman pitched all seven innings to earn the win for the Hornets. She allowed four hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out four and walking two.
In the nightcap, Emma Glawson was two-for-two with three runs batted in, Uxua Lopez was three-for-three with two RBI and
Kayla Lester also had three hits in three at bats, while driving in one to lead the Hornets.
Delaware State opened the scoring when Lopez singled in a run in the bottom of the second, and opened up a 2-0 lead on a single by Glawson in the third. Lester singled in a run to give DSU a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Lopez knocked in her second run of the game and Glawson had a two-run single in the fifth to close out the scoring for the Hornets.
Munoz was three for four with two runs scored in the nightcap.
McIntosh tossed a seven-inning complete game, allowing just three hits and one run, while striking out five to earn the win.
The Hornets (4-10) begin MEAC play this weekend at home against Maryland Eastern Shore. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 18) beginning at noon. Â Â Â
