Dover, Del. (Feb. 27, 2023) --- Visiting Coppin State hit 12 three-point field goals on 25 attempts to highlight its 82-72 MEAC win over Delaware State in Memorial Hall this evening. The Eagles won for the second time in the last three games to improve to 8-22 overall and 3-10 in the MEAC. The Hornets dropped their second in a row to fall to 6-22 and 4-9. Coppin State also avenged a 71-66 loss to Delaware State on Jan. 30 in Baltimore, Md.
Mike Hood led five double-figure scorers for the Eagles with a game-high 24 points on six-of-13 shooting from the field, including six-of-12 on three-point shots, and six free throws on seven attempts. Nendah Tarke and Justin Steers tallied 12 points each for the Eagles. Coppin State's Sam Sessoms, the MEAC's leading scorer at 21.7 points per game entering the contest, had 11 points and dished out a game-high nine assists. Â Â Â Â
Martaz Robinson was high scorer for Delaware State with 17 points, his 10
th game topping the double-figure mark in the last 11 contests. Robinson also dished out six assists to tie with
Corey Perkins for team-high honors. He also grabbed eight rebounds to tie with teammate
Kyle Johnson for tops on the Hornets. Perkins was the only other double-figure scorer for the Hornets with 15 points, his second-best scoring mark this season. He was five-for-eight from the field, including two-of-three on three-point shots, and did not commit a turnover in the contest. Â
Coppin State hit 13 of its 24 shots (54.2%), including six three-pointers on 14 tries, en route to a 37-28 lead at the half. The Eagles shots (65.2%) in the second half, while outscoring the Hornets 45-44 in the final 20 minutes.
 Delaware State will wrap up the 2022-23 regular season at home against Maryland -Eastern Shore on Thursday (Mar. 2). Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall.   Â
