BEARS TOP HORNETS IN THIRD MEETING THIS SEASON

(Feb. 25, 2023) ---Playing for the third time in less than a month, Morgan State got the better of Delaware State for the second meeting in a row, winning 83-78 in a MEAC contest at Hill Fieldhouse today to take the regular season series two games-to-one. Isaiah Burke led four double-figure scorers for Morgan State with 21 points on eight-for-13 shooting from the field, including three three-point field goals on five attempts. Delaware State's O'Koye Parker came off the bench to lead all players with 23 points, his third game with 20-or-more this season. Parker hit 10 of his 19 shots from the field, including three-of-nine from beyond the arc. Martaz Robinson added 20 points (7-10 FG; 6-6 FT), while Khyrie State chipped in 12 and Corey Perkins 10 for the Hornets. Perkins also tied for game-high honors with six assists, while also recording three steals to share the high with two other players.
The Hornets were in control midway through the first half, opening up 29-23 lead on a jumper by Parker with 6:40 to go before the break. The Bears outscored Delaware State 13-4 the rest of the half to lead 36-33 at intermission. Morgan State opened up its first double-digit lead of the game, 48-38, on a three-ball by Kamron Hall with 16:42 remaining, and held its biggest advantage, 65-49, on a three-pointer by Burke with 8:59 to play.
The Hornets staged a furious rally late in the game, pulling to within five points after a three-pointer by Staten with 21 seconds left to go. After a Morgan State turnover with 13 seconds remaining, Delaware State had as chance to pull closer, but came up short on two shot attempts on the possession.   
The Hornets won the first meeting between the teams this season 64-62 on Jan. 28 in Dover, Del. Five days later, the Bears avenged the loss with a 75-65 victory in the Michael B. Jordan-led HBCU Legacy Classic in Newark, N.J. The classic contest did not count in the MEAC standings.
Morgan State improved to 14-14 overall and 6-6 in the MEAC, while the Hornets fell to 6-21 and 4-8.  
Delaware State is back in action on Monday (Feb. 27) at home against Coppin State. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall. The Hornets defeated the Eagles 71-66 in their first meeting this season on Jan. 30 in Baltimore, Md.
