CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The Delaware State baseball team opened the 2023 season with a 21-9 loss on the road to The Citadel earlier today.

Sophomore left fielder Alex Rodriguez and newcomer
Wilfredo Mendez paced the offensive efforts with a pair of runs batted in apiece.
Evan Bouldin, who made his collegiate debut joined his older brother
Krew Bouldin and transfer
Jancarlos Colon in tallying a pair of hits each.

Mendez also drew a team-best three walks while
Trey Paige earned two free bases in the game.

The Citadel ensured the home win with a ten-run fourth inning powered by the grand slam of sophomore third baseman Thomas Rollauer. Rollauer led his team to victory with six RBIs and was one of four Bulldogs with a multi-hit game.

These two teams will go again in game two of the three-game series tomorrow at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. First pitch is currently scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
