Mikaela Francois singled in two runs in the top of the eighth inning to lift Delaware State to a 4-2 game one victory over Agnes Scott (Ga.) in the Hornets' season opener today. DSU completed the doubleheader sweep with a 3-1 victory in the nightcap behind solid relief pitching from
Madelyn Edwards, and a second home run of the day for designated hitter
Uxua Modrego Lopez. In the opener, the score was 2-2 heading into the eighth inning. The Hornets had runners at third and second with two out in the top of the eighth when Francois singled up the middle, scoring
Felicity Munoz and
Julianna Cerron to give Delaware State a two-run lead. Reliever Emma Glawson retired Agnes Scott in order in the bottom of the eighth to seal the win. Francois had two of DSU's seven hits, while Modrego Lopez was two-for-two with a solo home run to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning in the opener. Delaware State starter

In the nightcap, Edwards tossed four shutout innings in relief and Modrego Lopez smacked her second homer to highlight the win. Delaware State trailed 1-0 before scoring two unearned runs in the top of the fifth. Modrego Lopez added an insurance run for the Hornets with two-out solo blast in the fifth. Edwards allowed just two hits while facing 14 batters in four innings out of the bullpen.

Delaware State (2-0) will next take on Bowling Green in the University of Florida T Mobile Tournament on Fri. at 9:00 a.m. The Hornets will also face Central Michigan and Florida in the weekend tournament.
