Norfolk, Va. (Feb. 13, 2023) --- Norfolk State won its 15
th game in a row over visiting Delaware State, topping the Hornets 97-58 in a MEAC contest at Echols Hall this evening. The Spartans won their fourth straight game overall to improve to 18-7 overall and 7-2 in the MEAC this season. Delaware State dropped its second in a row to fall to 5-19 and 3-6. Kris Bankston led four double-figure scorers for Norfolk State with a game-high 22 points on nine-for-11 shooting from the field, and four free throws on four attempts.
O'Koye Parker continued his recent hot streak for Delaware State, coming off the bench to score a team-high 19 points, highlighted by four three-point field goals on six attempts. Parker has tallied 59 points and 11 three-pointers (on 16 attempts) in the last three games. Norfolk State never trailed in the contest. The Spartans hit 16 of their 30 first half shots (53.3%) en route to a 39-22 lead at the break. Norfolk State was even hotter in the second half, connecting on 17 of 26 shots from the field (65.4%) while outscoring Delaware State 58-36 in the final 20 minutes.
Martaz Robinson scored in double-figures for the seventh straight game with 12 points (8-9 FT), while
Raymond Somerville added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Hornets. Delaware State is home for its next two games, taking on North Carolina Central this Saturday (Feb. 18 @ 4:00 p.m.) and South Carolina State next Monday (Feb. 20 @ 7:30 p.m.) in Memorial Hall.
