HORNETS TAKE ON MEAC CO-LEADER HOWARD IN SAT. CONTEST

THE GAME 
The Hornets (5-17; 3-4 MEAC), winners in four of their last five games, take on MEAC co-leader Howard. Delaware State is currently tied with North Carolina Central for fifth in the league standings. The Hornets are coming off a 66-60 win Chicago State in a non-conference game on Tuesday.  Martaz Robinson and reserve O'Koye Parker led Delaware State with 16 points each to highlight the victory. Robinson was seven-for-14 from the field in the contest. He also topped the Hornets with eight rebounds in the game. Parker was five-for-eight from the field, including two three-pointers on four attempts, in 15 minutes off the bench. Corey Perkins turned in a solid all-around performance for the Hornets in the game, tallying 12 points, to go along six assists, six rebounds and three steals. Center Ray Somerville scored nine points and had a game-high three blocks. For the season, Brandon Stone is tops on the Hornets in scoring at 12.2 points per game and in rebounding with at 5.3 per game. Stone sat out the Chicago State contest, and has been slowed by a knee injury in recent games. Robinson has climbed to second on the team in scoring (10.5 ppg) He's also tied for the lead in rebounding (5.3 pg) and is second on the squad with 58 assists. Fellow guard Khyrie State is the Hornets' third-leading scorer at 9.7 points per game.  
 
Howard (14-10; 6-1) is currently tied with Maryland-Eastern Shore atop the MEAC standings. The Bison have won six straight and seven of their last eight games entering this weekend's contests. Howard is coming off a 100-74 victory over visiting South Carolina State last Monday.  Junior forward Jordan Wood led the Bison with 18 points while second-year guard Elijah Hawkins recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 assists in the contest. Howard 46-35 at the half, and outscored the Bulldogs 54-39 in the final 20 minutes. Elijah Hawkins leads a balanced scoring attack for the Bison at 13.3 points per game to rank seventh in the MEAC. Steve Settle is second on the team and 14th in the league with an 11.4 point-per-game average.                    
 
THE SERIES  (Howard leads 58-53 … since 1966-67 season)
This will be the second meeting between the Hornets and Bison this season.  Howard won the first contest 84-64 on Jan. 7 in Washington, D.C., its third straight win in the series. The Bison shot 61.5% from the field in the first half 16-for-26) and 58.8% for the game (30-for-51) to highlight their win in this year's first contest. O'Koye Parker came off the bench to lead Delaware State with 13 points, highlighted by three-of-five shooting on three-point shots. Martaz Robinson added 11 points, while Ray Somerville led all players with seven rebounds for the Hornets. Howard hit 16 of its 26 first half shots, and led 41-33 at the break. Delaware State was outscored 43-31 in the final 20 minutes. The Hornets played  the first Howard meeting without their leading scorer and rebounder Brandon Stone due to a knee injury.
