DOVER, DE --The Delaware State volleyball team lost to the Howard Lady Bison in three sets (23-25, 17-25, 22-25) Saturday at home at Memorial Hall.
The post season loss moved Delaware State to 17-13 to end their 2023 season.
Alondra Maldonado finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Hornets offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .6. got nine digs from Gerren Tomlin to lead them defensively. Delaware State attackers were helped by a team-high 15 assists from Kaulana Kalulu-Sugai.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hornets found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tight first set 25-23. Howard grabbed the advantage for good at 22-21 in a set that was tied up four times before the Lady Bison took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | A 25-17 second-set loss put Delaware State behind 2-0 in the match. Delaware State trailed by as many as eight points as Howard grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that was tied up three times before the Lady Bison took over the lead.
SET 3 | Delaware State was not able to win the third set and was swept by Howard. The Hornets came up short by the score of 25-22. Howard grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was tied up three times before the Lady Bison took over in the second half of the stanza.
