DURHAM, North Carolina -- Delaware State put together a big 217-yard output on the ground, including 133 yards from Marquis Gillis,, but fell 55-14 to North Carolina Central Saturday afternoon on the road at O'Kelly-Riddick.
The Eagles improved to 9-2 on the year and 4-1 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Hornets fell to 1-9 overall and 0-4 in conference matchups.
Gillis totaled 133 yards to lead the Hornets' ground attack and added one touchdown in the game, picking up 9.5 yards per carry along the way. Marqui Adams also tacked on 66 yards on the ground, picking up 9.4 yards per carry.
The most prolific target for Delaware State quarterbacks was Ej Core, who caught five passes for 99 yards.
Darren Cook showed out for the Delaware State defense, totaling 1.0 TFL and one sack. Team added and Amir Anderson had four tackles in the loss.

Delaware State got on the scoreboard first and jumped out to a 7-0 lead on the game's opening drive.North Carolina Central then scored to take a 38-7 lead before the Hornets put a touchdown on the board to cut into the lead and make it a 38-14 game. Delaware State didn't score again in the game and North Carolina Central tacked on 17 more points to finish off the scoring. North Carolina Central outgained Delaware State 669-384 in the contest.
