THE GAME
Delaware State (1-12; 0-0 MEAC) tips off its 2022-23 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schedule with a visit to long-time rival Howard. The Hornets have dropped the last 12 games since posting their only win of the season, 104-67 vs. Immaculata, on Nov. 10. Delaware State is coming off a competitive 60-46 loss to Penn State of the Big10 in its last outing on Dec. 29. The visiting Hornets  trailed by just single digits near the five-minute mark of the game, but ran out of gas in the contest. O'Koye Parker came off the bench to lead the Hornets with 11 points, highlighted by three three-point field goals on three attempts, in nine minutes of play in the game.. Brandon Stone added 10 points, while guard Martaz Robinson led all players with 11 rebounds for the Hornets. Penn State never trailed in the contest, but had a tough time breaking away from the Hornets. The Lions failed to hold a double-figure lead throughout the first half. Delaware State only trailed 23-20 when Corey Perkins nailed a three-pointer with 7:56 to play in the first half, and was behind just 27-22 at the break. After Penn State opened up a 46-33 second half lead, Parker drilled three-pointers on back-to-back Delaware State possessions. His second three cut the Lions' advantage to 46-39 with 8:29 left to play. Parker's third three-pointer of the game pulled the Hornets to within 49-42 with 6:49 remaining, but the Hornets could get no closer the rest of the way. For the season, Stone is tops on the Hornets in scoring at 12.0 points per game and in rebounding with 5.1 per contest. He is in his first season with Delaware State after previously attending Robert Morris University (Pa.). Khyrie Staten Is second on the Hornets in scoring at 9.9 points per game. Parker has climbed to third on the team in scoring at 7.7 points per game, and he also tops the team with 18 three-point field goals in 34 attempts (.529). First-year
guard Jevin Muniz (fr.) is Delaware State's fourth-leading scorer at 7.5 points per game. Muniz is also tied with Staten for second on the club with 13 three-pointers. The Hornets are looking to improve on a 0-14 MEAC record during the 2021-22 season.

Howard (7-9; 0-0– MEAC) is also making its 2022-23 MEAC debut. The Bison put up a tough fight in their last outing, falling to visiting La Salle 80-76 on Dec. 29. The loss snapped Howard's three-game winning streak, featuring victories over Florida International, Harvard and Mount St. Mary's. Elijah Hawkins, a 2022-23 Preseason All-MEAC First Team selection, leads the Bison in scoring at 13.2 points per game. Steve Settle (Preseason All-MEAC Second Team) is second on the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game and the leading rebounder at 6.6 per contest. Howard was second in the 2021-22 MEAC regular season race with a 9-5 league record.

THE SERIES  (Howard leads 57-53   … since 1966-67)
