THE GAMEÂ
Delaware State (1-14; 0-2 MEAC) visits long-time rival Maryland-Eastern Shore in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game. The Hornets are looking to snap a 13-game losing streak that includes their first two MEAC contests. Delaware State is coming off a 78-65 home loss to defending MEAC champion Norfolk State on Monday.  Guards

Martaz Robinson each tallied career-high point totals to lead Delaware State in the contest. Muniz scored a game-high 22 points, highlighted by five-of-seven shooting on three-point shots, while Robinson chipped in 21 points, keyed by 10-for-10 shooting at the free throw line. Center
Raymond Somerville also had a personal-best 13 points and led all players with 10 rebounds for the Hornets. The Spartans led 36-29 at the break. Norfolk State was ahead by as many as 15 points in the second half before a furious comeback attempt by the Hornets. Delaware State outscored the Spartans 15-5 during an eight-minute stretch of the second half, and trimmed the deficit to 49-44 on a jumper by Somerville with 9:08 left to play. Brandon Stone (sr.) is tops on the Hornets in scoring at 12.0 points per game and in rebounding with 5.1 per contest, although he has missed the last two games due to a knee injury. Stone is in his first season with Delaware State after previously attending Robert Morris University (Pa.).
Khyrie Staten Is second on the Hornets in scoring at 9.0 points per game. Muniz is Delaware State's third -leading scorer at 8.2 points per game and second on the club with 19 three-pointers. Shooting guard
O'Koye Parker is fourth on the Hornets with a 7.8 point per game average and tops the team with 21 three-pointers on 44 attempts (.477)Â

Maryland-Eastern Shore (8–8 ;1–1 MEAC) has won five of its last six games, including an 82-73 victory over Howard in the most recent contest on Jan. 9. Zion Styles led five double-figure scorers for the Hawks with 15 points on seven-for-nine shooting from the field (1-1 3pt FG) in the game. Kevon Voyles added 14 points and Troy Hupstead came off the bench to contribute 13 points. Voyles is the Hawks' leading scorer this season at 12.0 points per game, while Da'Shawn Phillip is the second leading scorer (10.6 ppg) and has a team-high 24 three-pointers this season. Nathaniel Pollard tops the team in rebounding at 7.6 per game. Among the Hawks' recent wins was an 86-78 victory over Temple on Dec. 20 in Philadelphia.           Â

THE SERIES Â (Tied 57-57)
This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the Hornets and Hawks during the 2022-23 regular season. Maryland Eastern Shore swept two meetings during the 2021-22 season. The Hawks won the first contest 58-50 at Delaware State. The Hornets trailed 27-15 at the half after hitting just seven of its 26 shots (26.9%) and committing 12 turnovers in the first 20 minutes. UMES won the second 2021-22 meeting between the teams 63-58 in Princess Anne, Md. The Hawks have won their last five home games against Delaware State. The teams are also scheduled to meet in this year's regular season finale on Mar. 3 in Dover, Del.             Â
