Dover, Del. (Sep. 6, 2022)--- Delaware State set a team three-set record with 17 service aces to highlight its 3-0 volleyball win over visiting Bowie State on Tuesday. The scores were 25-13, 25-4 and 25-15. The Hornets won their fifth straight match, four by shutout, and 19
th in a row at home to improve to 5-2 this season.
The 17 aces eclipsed Delaware State's previous record of 16 in a three-set match, also against Bowie State, in 2021. Â
The Hornets also recorded their most total aces in a match since tallying 21 in a 3-1 victory over Coppin State on Oct. 17, 2008.

Sydney Lewis tied her career-high with six aces in the contest, while

Jasmal Cruz,
Maria Verrier,
Alayna Lacy and
Malgorzata Andersohn tallied two service winners each for the Hornets.
Valeria Otero led Delaware State with nine kills on 19 attacks (.421), while Lewis had eight winners on 14 attempts (.571), in addition to the six aces and two blocks to give her a match-high 15.5 points.
Malgorzata also led all players with 25 assists. Cruz had a match-high 13 digs.
Delaware State travels to Alabama this weekend to compete in a tournament hosted by Alabama A&M University.
