HORNETS FALL TO COLONIALS IN MID-WEEK CONTEST

Dover, Del. (Apr. 26, 2022) --- Delaware State jumped out to an early lead, and only trailed by a run after five innings, but struggled down the stretch in a 10-2 loss to George Washington this afternoon.
The Hornets led 2-0 after two innings, but GW fought back  lead 3-2 heading into the sixth. The Colonials scored seven runs in the top of the sixth to take control.
Delaware State got off to a fast start in the game. After George Washington failed to score in the top of the first inning, Jules Ceron and Jaelyn Baker each singled to begin the bottom of the inning. After Sandrea Hord walked to load the bases,  Yanique Spencer reached base on a fielder's choice with one out to drive home Ceron with the game's first run. Dallas Speicher-Ramirez followed with a single to right to score Baker, giving the Hornets a 2-0 lead.
Speicher-Ramirez was 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Hornets' seven-hit attack. Baker had two hits in three at bats for Delaware State.
George Washington scored two runs in the third to tie the score, and added a run in the fourth to pull ahead 3-2.
The Colonials scored seven runs on six hits, while also taking advantage of three Delaware State errors, in their sixth inning rally.
The Hornets will close out their regular season schedule with a three-series at home against Howard this weekend. The series begins with a double-header on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m., followed by a 1:00 p.m. single game on Sunday.
