DOVER, Del. --- The Delaware State baseball team dropped its four-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series finale with Coppin State 18-6 on Sunday.
Â
After Coppin State jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the game, Delaware State responded in the bottom of the first.
Brady Daniels got the Hornets on the board with a two-RBI single that brought home
Trey Paige and
Miguel Rivera, trimming the Eagle lead to 5-2. A few batters later,
Connor Baksh ripped a two-run single right back up the middle to bring Delaware State within one (5-4) after one.
Â
Rivera, who ended the afternoon with a perfect 3-for-3 game at the plate, tied the game at 5 in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to right center.
Â
A tie would be as close as Delaware State would get to the lead as Coppin State would erupt in the middle innings and string a six-run eighth to seal the away win and clinch the series.
Â
Daniels joined Rivera in recording three hits on the afternoon.
Â
Delaware State returns to action this weekend for a four-game series in MEAC competition with Norfolk State. First pitch from Marty L. Miller Field is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m.
