Dover, Del. (Feb. 27, 2022) --- Delaware State held two leads in the game, but was hurt by another big inning in a 12-3 loss to Bradley in the Hornets' final game of a weekend tournament at Auburn University today.
Delaware State led 1-0 and 2-1 before Bradley put nine runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning to take control of the game.
The Hornets opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning.
Felicity Munoz walked to lead off the game, and was at second base with one out when
Jaelyn Baker singled up the middle to drive her home to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.
After Bradley evened the score with a run in the bottom of the second, Delaware State answered with a third inning run to regain the lead.
Jonah Cunnigan singled to lead off the third, and was at second with one down when
Dallas Speicher-Ramirez singled to right center to chase her home and give the Hornets a 2-1 lead.
Delaware State was still ahead by a run when Bradley sent 15 batters to the plate in its nine-run fourth inning to open up a 10-2 lead.
The Hornets scored a run in the top of the fifth on a two-single when
Sandrea Hord scored on a two-out single by
Kyla Johnson.
Delaware State had five hits in the game, including two by Speicher-Ramirez, who singled in each of her two at bats. Â Â Â Â Â
The Hornets return to action next weekend (Mar. 11-13) at the UNC Greensboro Tournament in North Carolina.
