Dover, Del. (Feb. 26, 2022) --- Delaware State scored the first two goals and last four of the match, but it not enough in a 15-8 loss to Manhattan at Alumni Stadium this afternoon.
Grace Lipponer had five goals and a assist, while three other Manhattan players tallied two goals each.
Gwenna Gentle and
India Rosiere had three goals each to lead the Hornets.
Delaware State started quickly, opening up a 2-0 lead on goals by Gentle and
Emmy McGill five minutes into the contest.
Manhattan (2-1) answered with four straight goals, two by Lipponer, to open up a 4-2 lead.
After Rosiere scored her first goal of the game to cut the Jaspers' lead to 4-3, Manhattan scored the next two to pull ahead 6-3.
Gentle tallied her second goal of the game to pull Delaware State to within 6-4 at the 11:50 mark of the second period.
Manhattan responded with nine straight goals, including three more by Lipponer, to lead 15-4.
The Hornets ended the Jaspers' run when Gentle scored her third goal of the game late in the third period.
Delaware State shutout Manhattan in the fourth quarter, while scoring three goals of its own - two by Rosiere - to finish the game on a high note.
Gentle has team-highs of six goals and seven points, while Rosiere is second on the Hornets with three goals and four points in the first two games of the season.
Delaware State (0-2) returns to action on Sunday Mar. 6 at Sacred Heart (Conn.) for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
