Dover, Del. (Feb. 19, 2022) ---Hartford pitchers allowed just one unearned run and 11 hits in a sweep of Delaware State in the season opening softball doubleheader for the Hornets this afternoon. The Hawks won the opener 1-0 and took the nightcap 7-1.
Hartford scored the game's only run in the opener with one out in third inning off Delaware State starter Emma Glawson.
The Hornets had the potential tying run on base when Yanique Spencer doubled with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but failed to score.
Second baseman Felicity Munoz had two of Delaware State's five hits in the opener.
Glawson allowed four hits and the one run in four innings as the opening day starter in her debut for the Hornets.
In game two, designated hitter Kelsey Galevich was three for four with two doubles and two RBI to lead the Hawks.
First baseman Jaelyn Baker had two of Delaware State's six hits in the game.
The Hornets scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh to avoid a shut out in game two. Madison Burnette singled with one out in the seventh. She scored from second base when Jonah Cunnigan reached on a throwing error with two outs.
McKenzie Yurcaba was tagged with the game two loss for the Hornets. She allowed five hits and two runs, one earned, with striking out two without a walk in four innings.
Delaware State and Hartford will wrap up the series with a single game on Sunday (Feb. 20), starting at 11:00 a.m.
