THE GAMEÂ
Delaware State (1-11; 0-0 MEAC) closes out the 2022 calendar year with a visit to Penn State of the Big 10 Conference. The Hornets are looking to snap a string of 10 straight losses since their lone win of the season, 104-67 vs. Immaculata (Pa.), on Nov. 10. Delaware State has been idle since a 58-51 home loss to Wagner on Dec. 20. The Seahawks scored the last nine points of the game to secure the seesaw affair. Delaware State led 51-49 when
Brandon Stone knocked down a three-point field goal with 2:27 left to play. After Wagner pulled to within a point, the Seahawks scored a basket with 1:41left to take the lead for good. Wagner scored on its next position to pull ahead 54-51, and hit four free throws in the final 19 seconds to seal the win. The loss overshadowed a solid performance by Delaware State's Stone, who led al players with 23 points on nine-for-14 shooting from the field, including two three-pointers on five attempts. Kyle Johnson also had a strong game, tallying 10 points, and season-highs of 10 rebounds and five blocks. The blocks were the most by a Hornet since
Chris Sodom had a school-record nine vs. Morgan State last season. For the season, Stone is tops on the Hornets in scoring at 12.2 points per game and in rebounding with 5.1 per contest. He is in his first season with Delaware State after previously attending Robert Morris University (Pa.).
Khyrie Staten
Is second on the Hornets in scoring at 10.2 points per game. He's also tied for the team lead with 12 three-point field goals. Guard
Jevin Muniz (fr.) has climbed to third on the Hornets in scoring at 7.7 points per game. Muniz is also tied for second on the club with 12 three-pointers. Â
O'Koye Parker is number four on the team with a 7.4Â point-per-game average. He's also knocked down a team-high 15 three-point field goals. Guard
Martaz Robinson leads the Hornets with 36 assists and is third in
rebounding at 3.3 per game.
Corey Perkins (so.), a Preseason All-MEAC Third Team selection, averages 3.8 points per game and is second on the Hornets with 31 assists. Â

Penn State (9-3; 1-1 BIG10) brings a three-game win streak into the contest, highlighted by a 74-59 Big 10 road victory at #17 Illinois on Dec. 10. The Nittany Lions are coming off a 77-68 home win over Quinnipiac on Dec. 22. Jalen Pickett led four double-figure scorers for Penn State with a game-high 21 points and also topped all players with 12 rebounds and nine assists. Pickett also leads the Lions in scoring (16.6 ppg), rebounding (7.7 pg) and assists (93) for the season. Andrew Funk is Penn State's third-leading scorer (11.8 ppg) and has a team-high 35 three-point field goals (35-83; .422). As a team, the Lions have 136 three-pointers on 342 attempts for a .398 percentage this season.  .                     Â

The Hornets and Lions are meeting for the third time. Penn State won the previous two contests, each on its home court, topping Delaware State 80-76 in overtime during the 2012-13 season, and 105-52 during the 2017-18 campaign.        Â
