Dover, Del. (Dec. 10, 2022) ---Georgian Court used a 31-6 second half run to key its 75-69 victory over Delaware State in Memorial Hall this afternoon. The Lions won for the third time in their last four games to improve to 5-4 this season, while the Hornets dropped their eighth in a row to fall to 1-9. Clint Wright, Jr. and Jelani Jackson led a balanced Georgian Court attack with 15 points each. Cameron Edmonds added 14 points, while Jamaal Waters and Justin Soranno chipped in 10 points each for the Lions.
O'Koye Parker (sr.) came off the bench to lead Delaware State with a game-and-season-high 24 points. Parker was eight-for-13 from the field, including six three-point field goals on nine attempts. Â His six threes were the most by a Hornet since Pinky Wiley hit seven at Norfolk State during the 2020-21 season.
Jevin Muniz had 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds for DSU.
Muniz nailed a three-pointer just before the first half buzzer to give Delaware State a 27-24 lead the break.
After
Martaz Robinson (nine points) hit a jumper to give the Hornets a 29-24 lead, Georgian Court controlled the next nine minutes to open up a 20-point lead. The Lions scored 31 of the next 37 points, highlighted by a 20-point spurt, and opened up a 55-35 lead on a three-pointer by Edmonds at the 11:27 mark of the second half.
The Hornets chipped away at the deficit over the next 10 minutes, and pulled to within 67-62 on Parker's fifth three-pointer of the game with 1:02 left to play. The Lions hit six of eight free throws and Wright added a basket down the stretch to seal the win.
Delaware State was outscored 51-42 in the second half.
Georgian Court hit 23 of its 44 shots from the field (52.3%), including eight of 16 three-point shots (50%), and 21 of 29 free throws (72.4%).
The Hornets shot 33.8% overall from the field (24 for 71) and 28.1% on three -points shots (9 for 32). Delaware was 12 for 21 at the free throw line (57.1%.
The Lions won the rebound battle 36-21.
Delaware State returns to action next Sat. (Dec. 17) at Drexel. Games time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Philadelphia. Pa.
