ANN ARBOR, Mich. --- The Delaware State women's basketball team completed its second of three road games to open the 2022-23 season with an 83-30 loss to No. 25 University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on Wednesday.

Freshman guard
Deyonce Thompson led the offensive efforts for the Hornets with 15 points off 5-of-15 shooting from the field including knocking down a team-high three three-pointers.

Brishonne Tollie and
Sydney Watkins chipped in with six points each.

With three Wolverines recording double-digit point performances, University of Michigan was led by sophomore guard Laila Phelia who scored a game-high 20 points off 8-of-11 shooting from the field including a game-best 4-of-6 from behind the three-point line.

The Wolverines held the Hornets to single-digit scoring in three of the game's four quarters.

Delaware State will return to action on Saturday in Hampton, Virginia for a contest with the Pirates of Hampton University. Tipoff is currently scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
