Dover, Del, (Nov. 10m 2022) --- Delaware State posted its highest point total in more than nine years with a 104-67 victory over Immaculata in the Hornets' home opener at Bayhealth Court in Memorial Hall this evening.
The point total was the most by the Hornets since a 107-48 victory over Cairn on Nov. 9, 2013.
Delaware State newcomer
Brandon Stone (sr.), a transfer from Robert Morris (Pa.), scored a game-high 25 points on 11-for-15 shooting from the field, including two-of-four on three-point shots. He also led all players with nine rebounds in the contest.
Khyrie Staten (so.) set a career-high for the second straight game, tallying 21 points on seven field goals, including three three-pointers (3-7), and perfect shooting on four free throws for the Hornets. Staten also recorded six assists and four steals, also career highs.
Newcomer
Jevin Muniz (fr.) was five-for-seven from the field, including two-of-three on three-point attempts in a 12-point performance for Delaware State, while
Corey Perkins (so.) came off the bench to match his career-high with 10 assists. Perkins also tied his career best with five steals, while chipping in six points.
The Hornets broke open a close game with a late first half run to lead 47-29 at the break, and outscored the Mighty Macs 57-38 in the second half. Delaware State shot 60.5% from the field in the final 20 minutes, making good on 23 of their 38 second half shots. Â
The Hornets turned 30 Immaculata turnovers into 35 points, while outscoring the Macs 52-24 in the paint and 20-6 on fast break points.
Jalen Flowers came off the bench to lead Immaculata with 12 points, while John Proctor added 11.
The Hornets (1-1) will return to action on Monday (Nov. 14) against No. 16/17 Villanova. Game time is set for 7:00 at VU's Finneran Pavilion. Â Â
