HORNETS BLANK BULLDOGS FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

Dover, Del. (Oct. 9, 2022) --- The Delaware State women's soccer team cracked the win column for the first time this season with a 3-0 shutout of South Carolina State at Drass Field today.
Brieana Hallo scored two goals, one in each half, and Geligne Franklin added one to give the Hornets their first win since a 1-0 victory vs. Maine Fort Kent on Oct. 20, 2021.
Defensively, Delaware State allowed just one shot on goal that was stopped by keeper Ashley Maribo.
Franklin opened the scoring  with a goal on a shot to the right of SC State keeper Denim Whitted in the 20th minute (19:28).  The goal was the team-leading third of the season for the senior forward.
Delaware State opened up a 2-0 lead when Hallo scored her first career goal on a penalty kick in the 34th  minute (33:01).
The Hornets led 2-0 at intermission.
Delaware State maintained the two-goal lead until late in the match when Hallo scored for the second time off a feed from MacKenzie Burns in the 87th minute (86:18). The score  marked the second two-goal match for the Hornets this season.
Franklin scored two vs. Binghamton on Sep. 17.
Delaware State (1-13) returns to action with a home match against Navy on Oct. 18. Start time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Drass Field.
