DSU VOLLEYBALL TAKES ON HAWKS IN FRI. MATCH

Dover, Del. (Sep. 30, 2021) --- The sizzling Delaware State volleyball team is going for 11 wins in a row when its takes on visiting Maryland-Eastern Shore in a MEAC contest  Friday evening. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
The Hornets have won their last 10 matches to establish a new team high.
DSU has a MEAC best 14-1 overall record this season, the best mark after 15 matches in team history. The Hornets have won by 3-0 scores eight times and won 30 of 32 sets during the win streak.
Delaware State has 10 shutout wins and is 43-7 in sets played this year, in addition to starting 2-0 in  the MEAC for the first time since the 2010 season.
The Hornets are also dominating MEAC statistical categories, while also ranking high in several NCAA team and individual charts.
The Hornets are No. 1 in the MEAC in hitting percentage (.260), opponent hitting percentage (.108), assists (13.16 per set), digs (14.04 per set), blocks (2.14 per set) and service aces (2.24 per set).
Nationally, DSU is third among all NCAA Division I teams in opponent hitting percentage and fourth with 112 total aces.
The Hornets are also tied for third in the NCAA with a .933 win percentage, 15th in kills per set,  30th in assists, 35th in hitting percentage and 38th in kills this season.
Individually, Delaware State's Malgorzata Andersohn is No. 1 among all NCAA Div. I players in aces per set (.78) and seventh in total aces, while teammate Kristi Gomez ranks second in the MEAC and ninth nationally in aces per set (.59). Andersohn also stands at fifth in the MEAC in assists (6.64 per set) entering this weekend's matches.
DSU's Adriana Rodriguez is tops in the MEAC and 14th best in the nation with a (.421) hitting percentage.
Hornets middle blocker Alondra Maldonado, a two-time MEAC Player-of-the-Week, is second in the league in kills (3.5 per set) and third with a .370 hitting percentage.
Delaware State's Sydney Lewis is the current MEAC leader in blocks 1.21 (per set), while Maldonado is fifth.
DSU is No. 5 in the MEAC in digs (3.95 per set) entering Friday's match.
Maryland-Eastern Shore brings a 1-1 MEAC record and 6-7 overall mark into the weekend. The Hawks, which did not compete this past spring due to the pandemic, have won 19 straight against the Hornets since a 3-2 Delaware State win in 2010.
UMES defeated Norfolk State (3-0) and fell to Howard (0-3) in its MEAC contests this season.
Delaware State is also home on Sunday to battle Norfolk State at 3:00 p.m.
