Dover, Del. (Sep. 10, 2021) --- The Delaware State volleyball team notched it fourth and fifth wins in a row, posting 3-0 victories over Central Connecticut and Siena at The Crowne Plaza Albany-The Desmond Invitational hosted by Siena College today.
The Hornets are now a MEAC-best 9-1 this season, their best start after 10 matches since the program began in 1985. Eight of DSU's nine wins this season are by 3-0 scores, including the last five contests, coming out on top in 15 straight sets.
Delaware State outscored Central Connecticut by scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 28-26.
Valeria Otero led the Hornets with 14 kills, while
Alondra Maldonado added 10.
Malgorzata Andersohn led all players with 23 assists and tallied a career-best 18 digs.
Jasmal Cruz continued her recent string of solid defensive play, tallying a season-high 19 digs.
As a team, the Hornets collected a season-high 65 digs in the match.
The Hornets were a point away from dropping the third set, trailing 24-21, but rallied for the win.
Delaware State outscored host Siena 25-13, 25-14 and 25-19.
Maldonado posted a match-high 10 kills, while Cruz again tied her season-high with 19 digs.
Andersohn turned in another solid performance with 14 assists and nine digs.
The Hornets also posted 14 blocks in each of today's matches.
Delaware State will close out the tournament on Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. match against St. Francis (Pa.), the only team to defeat the Hornets this season. SFC won the first match between the teams 3-1 on Sep. 4 in Loretto, Pa.
