Dover, Del. (Apr. 24, 2021) --- Southern Conference leader Furman scored the first eight goals and never looked back in a 20-4 victory over Delaware State at Alumni Stadium this morning. The Paladins won their eighth straight game to improve to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the Southern Conference.
Kyra LaMotte scored six goals, while Hannah Demis had a goal and assisted on five others to share game-high honors with six points each.
Furman scored 30 seconds into the game on a shot by Meagan Beal, and opened up an 8-0 lead when Sophie Shaw scored her second of back-to-back goals at the 19:52 mark of the opening period.
Delaware State answered with consecutive goals of its own.
Mayerlin Santos scored first for the Hornets with 12:58 to go in the first period and
Tamrin Swann found the net 25 seconds later to cut Furman's lead to 8-2.
The Paladins scored the last four goals of the period to lead 12-2 at the half.
Furman blew game open with eight scores in a row to start the second half, stretching its lead to 20-2.
Delaware State scored the last two goals of the game, including Swann's second of the contest with 9:49 left to play.
DSU's
Gwenna Gentle closed out the scoring on a free position shot with 6:10 to go. The goal was her team-leading 16
th of the season.
The Hornets (1-9; 0-3 SoCON) will be back in action this Wed. (April 28) at Presbyterian College.
