Dover, Del. (Apr. 11, 2021)---The University at Albany took a doubleheader from Delaware State for the second day in row to complete a four-game series sweep of the Hornets this weekend.
The Great Danes took game one today 13-2 and posted a 15-6 victory in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Hornets trailed 1-0 before scoring two run in the third on a sacrifice fly by Jasmine Melgoza and a single by Jonah Cunnigan.
The Great Danes responded with four runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and seven in the sixth.
Madison Petrella had a homer and four runs batted in, while Alexis Phillips drove in three to lead Albany's 11-hit attack in game one.
In game two, Albany's Maranda Jimenez was three-for-four with two home runs and five runs batted in. Petrella added two hits and three RBI in the nightcap.
Melgoza had two hits and drove in two runs in the nightcap for Delaware State.
The Hornets (8-16; 6-6 MEAC) will return to action with four games at the MEAC round-up in Orangeburg, S.C., next weekend.
