Newark, Del. (Mar. 9, 2021) --- Delaware scored two goals in the first 17 minutes en route to a 5-1 victory over Delaware State in a women's soccer contest Tuesday.
Sara D'Appolonia scored two goals, one in each half, to lead the Hens.
Geligne Franklin had each of the Hornets' two shots and lone goal.
Delaware (2-0) opened the scoring when Olivia Schuck fired a shot past DSU goal keeper
Ashley Maribo just 5:45 into the contest.
The Hens stretched their lead to 2-0 when D'Appolonia scored her first goal off a pass from Anna Diffendal in the 17
th minute.
Kate Henesey assisted on Delaware's third goal, connecting with Raychel Speicher in the 35
th minute.
Delaware State got on the board early in the second half when Franklin scored her second goal of the season, firing a shot from the left sideline, to cut the Hens' lead to 3-1.
D'Appolonia scored her second of the match in the 67
th minute and UD's Elizabeth Weimer tallied the final goal of the match about six minutes later.
The Hornets were outshot 14-2 in the contest. Maribo had four saves for DSU.
Delaware State (0-5) will close out its abbreviated spring 2021 season at Drexel on March 28 in Philadelphia.
