UMBC TAKES TWO FROM HORNETS FOR SERIES SWEEP

Baltimore, Md. (Mar. 7, 2021) --- UMBC completed a series sweep of a weekend series with Delaware State by winning two on Sunday.  The Retrievers won the first game 18-2 and took the seven-inning night cap 14-6.
In the opener, UMBC's Christian Macedo was two-for-two, including a grand slam in the Retrievers' eight-run sixth inning, and Christian Torres was two-for-four with a homer and three RBI to lead the team's 12 hit attack.
UMBC scored four runs in the bottom of the first and two each in the fourth and fifth innings. The Retrievers led 16-0 after the eight-run outburst in the sixth.
Delaware State used eight pitchers in the contest.
The Hornets scored their two runs in the eighth inning.
In the night cap, the Retrievers led 10-0 before the Hornets put five on the board in the top of the sixth inning. Mark Herron had a two-run single, while Brandon Gibbs also singled in a run in the sixth.
DSU scored a seventh inning run on a bases loaded walk to Brady Daniels.
UMBC scored its 14 runs on just seven hits in game two. Dylan Wilkinson drove in three runs, while Torres and Matt Clarke had two each for the Retrievers.
