Dover, Del. (Apr. 1) --- Delaware State returns to the MEAC Volleyball Tournament for the first time since 2010. The Hornets will take on MEAC South champion North Carolina A&T in the opening round of the four-team tournament in Friday (Apr. 2) at Norfolk State University. The winner will face either Coppin State, the MEAC North champ, or North Carolina Central for the conference championship on Saturday. The MEAC champ receives an automatic spot in the NCAA Championship Tournament.
The Hornets are the tournament's No. 2 North seed after finishing second in the MEAC Northern Division race with a 7-3 league record this season, the team's best since posting back-to-back 8-2 marks in 2009 and '10.
DSU has won its last four matches to finish the regular season with an 11-4 overall record. North Carolina was 8-0 in the MEAC South during the regular season and 9-1 overall. The Aggies have won their last nine matches.
This will be the first MEAC Tournament meeting between the Hornets and Aggies since 2007, and seventh all-time. The teams split the previous six tournament meetings. DSU won the last post-season battle 3-1 in '07. Delaware State and NCA&T did not meet during the regular season. The last time the teams met was in 2019, with the Aggies coming out on top 3-0 in Greensboro, N.C
