Dover, Del. (Mar. 24, 2021) --- The Delaware State volleyball team sets its sights on securing second place in the MEAC Northern Division in a battle against Morgan State in the Hornets' spring '21 home finale in Memorial Hall Thursday evening.
DSU is currently second in the North standings with a 4-3 division record, while Morgan State is third at 2-4. The Hornets are 1-0 against the Bears this season, winning 3-0 on Mar. 15 at home. The teams will also meet on Fri. (Mar. 26) at Morgan State in Baltimore, Md.
Coppin State (8-1) has already clinched the division title.
The top two teams in the MEAC's Northern and Southern Divisions will qualify for the conference championship tournament on Apr. 2-3 in Norfolk, Va.
Delaware State is seeking its first MEAC Tournament appearance since 2010. The season, DSU won two tourney matches before falling to South Carolina State 3-1 in the championship contest.
The Hornets are 6-1 at home this season, including a 3-1 victory over Howard in their last outing on Monday.
Delaware State is third in the MEAC in hitting percentage at .240 and third in opponent's percentage at .151.
The Hornets lead the league in blocks (2.09 per set), while ranking second in kills (12.6 per set).
Individually, DSU's
Sydney Lewis (so.) is second in the MEAC with a .394 attack percentage (74 kills/18 errors/142 attacks).
MEAC Rookie-of-the-Year candidate
Valeria Otero (fr.) is fourth in the league in kills at 3.17 per set and second in total kills with 130. Otero is a three-time MEAC Rookie-of-the-Week and was also selected as  MEAC Player of the Week this season.
Hornet senior
Mayah Ngundam is seventh in the conference in blocks (0.78 per set) and eighth in kills (2.54 per set).
Delaware State's
Jasmal Cruz (so.) has climbed to third in the MEAC in digs at 3.68 per set and ranks second in total digs with 151.
