Dover, Del. (Feb. 7, 2021) --- Delaware State volleyball is seeking its third consecutive win and a two-match sweep of Norfolk State when the teams meet on Monday (Feb. 8) at DSU. The contest is set for 4:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
The Hornets have won their last two matches, including a 3-1 victory at Norfolk State last Thursday in the most recent contest for each team. Delaware State won the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-17. The Spartans stayed alive with a 25-19 victory in the third set, but the Hornets sealed the match win by outscoring NSU 25-21 in set four.
Delaware State is also seeking a 3-1 start to the season for the first time since the program began in 1985.
The Hornets have been keyed by solid defense in the early going this season. DSU is No. 1 in the MEAC in blocks at 2.15 per set (28 total).

Sydney Lewis (so.) and
Mayah Ngundam (sr.) are tied for second in the league in blocks at 1.08 per set.
Hornet outside hitter
Valeria Otero (fr.) is third in the MEAC in kills at 3.15 per set. Her 41 total kills in 13 sets are tops among all league players. She has led the Hornets in winners in each of the three matches this season.
DSU's
Jasmal Cruz (so.) ranks sixth in the league in digs at 2.92 p/s,
Kristi Gomez is No. 3 in the conference in service aces (0.77 p/s).
Hornet setter
Jelena Dukic (sr.) is currently fifth in the MEAC at 5.46 assists per set (71 total).
Delaware State has won the first two sets in each of its three matches this season.
