Dover, Del. (Feb.28) --- The Delaware State Lady Hornets fall to the Howard University Bison 80-74 in their last home game of the season. DSU falls to 3-12 overall and 2-9 in conference play.
DSU's ten seniors (Daije Harris, Demi Moore, Janasia Law, Kiana Coomber, Lyric Turner, Melissa Sam, Miajah Bullock, Shannon Dozier, Sharajah Collins, and Zoe Holmes) were honored for senior night prior to the game.
Howard went on a 7-0 run to start the game, as Anzhane Hutton caps off the early run converting a jumper with 6:31 left in the first quarter.
DSU guard Daije Harris gets the Lady Hornets on the board with a three-pointer at the 6:06 mark. A couple of possessions later Shannon Dozier hits a midrange jumper to cut the deficit to two points. Â
With 3:32 Left in the quarter Miajah Bullock cuts the deficit to just one point, at 10-9 after making a layup.
The Bison responds with another run, their guard Jayla Thornton hits a three-pointer at the 1:54 mark, putting Howard back up seven, 16-9 with 1:54 remaining in the quarter.
The seven-point deficit is what the Hornets trail by with the score at 20-13 heading into the second quarter.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Janasia Law gives DSU a 24-22 lead with 3:09 left in the half.
Howard responds with a 9-3 run, Iyana Warren scores in transition despite being fouled. The lead guard hits the free throw, giving the Bison a 31-27 lead with 55 seconds remaining.
Daije Harris responds with a three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer sounds, cutting the Howard lead down to just one at 31-30.
Howard outscores DSU 18-6 to start the third quarter. Destiny Howell converts on a 'three-point play' giving them a 49-36 advantage with 5:21 left.
With 3:34 remaining in the third, Kiana Coomber finds Demaurea Moore for the layup, cutting the lead to ten at 52-42. Â After DSU's guard Naomi Shorts draws a charge on Iyanna Warren. The Lady Hornets take possession. Shorts passes the ball to Lyric Turner, who drains a three-pointer, cutting the deficit to seven with 3:07 left in the quarter.
Howard's Destiny Howell answers right back with a three-pointer of her own, putting their lead back up to ten.
Lyric Turner on the following possession hits another three-pointer, but this time she is fouled in the process. Turner makes the ensuing free throw, to cut the deficit to just six points at 55-49 with 2:21 remaining in the third quarter.
Lyric Turner finishes with 15 points, six rebounds and two steals on the night.
After Howard gets the lead back up to eight, Janasia Law passes the ball to Melissa Sam for the layup, bringing the deficit back down to six as the third quarter ends.

After a basket from the Bison to open the quarter, The Lady Hornets score on back-to-back possessions with midrange jumpers from Janasia Law and Daije Harris, cutting the deficit to five at the 7:41 mark of the fourth quarter.
Howard scores eight points unanswered, Kaiya Creek's layup increases their lead to 13 with 6:04 remaining. Â The Bison lead by as many as 15 points with 2:15 left in the game.
Turner scores in transition for DSU, on the next possession Melissa Sam grabs the offensive rebound and scores the putback. After that Kiana Coomber hits a three-pointer cutting the Bison lead to just eight with 46 seconds left.
After two free throws from Howard's Jayla Thorton, Coomber hits her second three of the quarter. Howard turns the ball over on the ensuing possession. Â
DSU executes a perfect out of bounds play, that gets Coomber a layup despite being fouled. Coomber sinks in the free throw, completing the three-point play. Her two baskets cut the deficit to just four points with 20 seconds left. However, Delaware State would not get any closer.
DSU shot 28-of-67 (41.8%) from the field and a blistering 12-of-29 (41.4%) on their three pointers. They also shot 6-of-12 on their free throws (50.0%).
Kiana Coomber was tied with a game high 16 points, she also added six rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal.
Dajie Harris and Janasia Law added nine points each, with Law also dishing out seven assists.
