HORNETS FRUSTRATED BY MEAC NORTH LEADER

Norfolk, Va. (Feb. 24, 2021) --- MEAC North leader Norfolk State forced Delaware State into 28 turnovers to key an 86-55 win over the Hornets at Joe Echols Arena Wednesday.
The Spartans won their third straight game and fourth in the last five to improve to 13-7 overall and 8-4 in the MEAC North. The Hornets fell to 2-13 and 0-9.
Jalen Hawkins came off the bench to lead four double-figure scorers for Norfolk State with a game-high 17 points. Devante Carter added 16 points, while Chris Ford and Kyonze Chavis added 10 each for the Spartans.
Zach Kent (so.) and Myles Carter (sr.) led Delaware State with 11 points each. Kent has reached double-figures in scoring in five straight games and seven of the last eight to raise his season average to 10.8 points per game.
DSU's John Stansbury scored 10 points and led all players with eight rebounds in the contest.
Delaware State led just once in the game, 6-4, after a three-pointer by Dom Fragala with 16:43 left in the first half.
Norfolk State  answered with an 18-2 run, and opened up a 22-8 lead after a three-pointer by Hawkins with 10:42 remaining in the half.
The Spartans led 41-25 at the break.
NSU opened up its biggest lead of the game, 83-49, on a dunk by Carter in the closing moments of the contest.
Delaware State was 19-for-48 from the field (39.6%), including six-of-21 on three-point shots (28.6%).
Norfolk State shot 50% from the field (32-for-64) and 39.1% from beyond the arc (9-for-23).
The Spartans held a slight edge in rebounding, 34-31.
Delaware State is back home this weekend (Feb. 27-28) to face Coppin State in a MEAC series. Saturday's contest begins at 8:00 p.m. and the teams will close out the series with a 5:00 p.m. contest on Sunday.
