MEN'S BASKETBALL VISITS BIG APPLE TO FACE WAGNER IN MON. EVENING CLASH

THE GAME 
Delaware State (2-9, 0-0 MEAC) visits the Big Apple to take on the Wagner College Seahawks. The Hornets bring a seven-game losing streak into the contest. DSU is coming off an 86-53 loss to North Carolina Central at the HBCU Legacy Classic at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., this past Saturday, The Hornets accepted an invitation the day before to compete in the game after Hampton University bowed out due to Covid protocols. North Carolina Central never trailed in the contest. The Eagles led 49-24 at the half and outscored DSU 37-29 in the final 20 minutes. The Hornets hit just 15 of their 56 shots from the field (26.8%), including three-of-22 from three-point range (13.6%). Myles Carter was high scorer for Delaware State with 18 points, while Dominik Fragala added 12 points. Christopher Sodom and John Stansbury, playing in his first game of the season, shared the team lead with five rebounds each.  The Eagles scored 35 points off DSU's 19 turnovers, while the Hornets managed just 11 points of NC Central's 15 turnovers. Delaware State played without starting point guard Corey Perkins (illness), who is third on the team in scoring and the leader in assists with 41 (4.1 per game). Carter is tops on the Hornets and second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in scoring at 15.5 points per game. He's also 11th in the league in rebounding at 5.5 per contest. Fragala ranks fourth in the MEAC with a 14.3 points per game average. He's also second in the league in three-pointers at 2.3 per game (25 total). Freshman point guard Perkins ranks third in the MEAC in assists at 4.1 per contest. Junior center Chris Sodom is the No. 1 shot blocker in the MEAC with 21 (2.1 pg) and he's fourth in the league in rebounding at 6.5 per game.
 
Wagner (4-2) has won two of its last three games, including a 108-46 victory over Immaculata College on Dec. 16. Elijah Ford led a balanced Seahawk attack with 17 points on seven-for-nine shooting from the field. Four other Wagner players scored in double-figures in the contest. Alex Morales added 16 points (7-9 FG), Will Martinez tallied 15 points, while Delonnie Hunt chipped in 14 and Ashton Miller 10. The Seahawks shot 62.5% for the game, connecting on 40 of their 64 shots from the field. Wagner also held a 48-16 rebound advantage in the contest. For the season, Morales is the Seahawks' scoring leader at 16.2 points per game. He's also the team's top rebounder at 6.2 per game and tied with Martinez for the team high with 21 assists. Ford is second on the team with an 11.7 point per game average, while Martinez is third in scoring at 11.4 points per contests.

This Hornets and Seahawks are meeting for the first time since 2012, and eighth time overall. Delaware State won the last meeting 73-69 in overtime on Nov. 14, 2012 in Dover, Del. The last time they met at Wagner, the Seahawks won 85-62 on Nov. 26, 2011.
