Dover, Del. (Nov. 9, 2021) --- The Delaware State men's basketball team tips off the
Stan Waterman era at home against Cairn on Tuesday. The Hornets will face Cairn University in the 2021-22 opener at 7:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
Waterman was hired as head coach of the Hornets last summer after a legendary coaching tenure at Delaware's Sanford School, where he led the program to eight state championships.
Waterman is looking to revive the Delaware State program that's looking for its first winning season since the 2011-12 campaign (15-14).
The Hornets were 3-16 overall and 1-11 in the MEAC during the pandemic shortened 2020-21 season.
Delaware State returns seven letterwinners from last year's squad, including preseason All-MEAC First Team selection
Myles Carter, who was tops on the Hornets and sixth in the MEAC in scoring at 15.0 points per game, and was the league's top free throw shooter at 88.1% last season.
DSU's second leading scorer last season, sharp shooter Dom Fragala, also returns this season. He averaged 10.6 points and was tied for the team lead with 35 three-point field goals during the 2020-21 season.
