Dover, Del. (Nov. 20, 2021) --- The Delaware State men's basketball team returns to Div. I action with a Saturday contest against the North Carolina-Wilmington Seahawks of the Colonial Athletic Association. Game time is 4:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
The Hornets (2-2) are coming off an 84-30 rout of Regent University last Tuesday. Â
DSU scored the first 20 points of the game and never looked back.
Delaware State led 46-9 at the half. The Hornets' lead of 37 points was the largest at halftime in recorded team history, while Regent's nine points were the fewest ever at the half by a DSU opponent.
Dom Fragala and
Fahim Jenneto led five double-figure scorers for the Hornets with 15 points each. Myles Cater chipped in with 13 points, while
Corey Perkins and
Khyrie Staten tallied 11 points each.
Fragala is DSU's leading scorer this season at 18.0 points per game, highlighted by a career-best 31 points vs. Salisbury on Nov. 12. He also has a team-high 13-three-point field goals on 31 attempts (.419).
Myles Carter is second on the Hornets in scoring at 13.0 points per game.
Chris Sodom is the team's top rebounder (8.8 pg) and shot blocker (11), while freshman guard
Corey Perkins has team-highs of 24 assists (6.0 pg) and 12 steals. Â
UNCW improved to 2-2 on the season with a 63-53 win over Coastal Carolina in its last outing on Thursday.
Shykeim Phillips is the Seahawks' leading scorer at 11.7 points per game. Jaylen Sims averages 9.0 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game.
The Hornets and Seahawks met in the 2020-21 season, with UNCW coming out on top 87-63 in Wilmington, N.C.
