The Game
Injury-riddled Delaware State (0-3; 0-0 MEAC) returns home to take on the University of Delaware in a battle between the state's two NCAA Div. I women's basketball programs. The Lady Hornets used just six players in a 120-51 loss to Penn State in their last outing on Tuesday in Happy Valley, Pa. DSU  battled early in contest, tying Penn State at 7-7, 9-9 and 11-11 before the Nittany Lions pulled away and never looked back. The Lady Hornets had two double-digit scorers in the game, led by freshman guard Joy Watkins with a team season-high 16 points, including two three-pointers and four-of-five shooting at the free throw line. Alexis Moragne (so.) added 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and sunk each of her two free throws. Moragne also tied for the team high with seven rebounds and dished out two assists in the loss. Freshman center Unique Miller chipped in with eight points and hauled in seven rebounds in the contest. The Lady Hornets were plagued by a season-high 37 turnovers vs. Penn State, raising their average to 29.0 in three games this year. Freshman guard Sianny Sanchez-Oliver, the reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week, is DSU's leading scorer through three games at 9.7 points per game. She also has a team-high eight assists. Moragne is second on the Lady Hornets in scoring at 9.3 points per game. Watkins' performance at Penn State raised her scoring average to 7.7 points per game this season. Among DSU's injured players this season is senior guard Janasia Law, a preseason All-MEAC Third Team selection. Kiana Coomber, the Lady Hornets' top returning scorer (8.4 ppg) and rebounder (7.0 pg) from the 2020-21 season, also sat out the Penn State contest.
The University of Delaware (2-1; 0-0 CAA) is coming off an impressive 83-60 win at Maine on Monday. Jasmine Dickey led the way with 32 points on 15-for-25 shooting from the field. Ty Battle had 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Hens. Delaware opened the season with an 87-48 win over Chestnut Hill on Nov. 9 and fell to Princeton 76-56 on Nov. 12. Dickey is the Hens' leading scorer on the season, averaging 22.3 points per game.

The Series
This is the 14th meeting between the Hornets and Hens. Delaware won the first 12 games before DSU picked up its first win in the series in the last contest between the teams, 67-64, on Nov. 12, 2019 at UD's Carpenter Center. The Lady Hornets pulled ahead for good in the final minute of play. There were eight ties and eight lead changes in the game. Delaware won the last time the teams met at DSU, 85-77, during the 2018-19 season. The teams were scheduled to meet in the 2020-21 campaign, but the game was called off due to the pandemic.
