HORNETS CRUISE BY BULLDOGS FOR 14TH STRAIGHT WIN

Dover, Del. (Oct. 10, 2021) --- The Delaware State women's volleyball team extended its school-record win streak to 14 with a 3-0  Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over South Carolina State in Memorial Hall today. The scores were 25-9, 25-11 and 25-10.  
The Hornets recorded their fifth straight shutout, and 15th this season, to improve to 18-1 overall and a league-best 6-0 in the MEAC.
Delaware State, with a current winning percentage of .947, was tied for the fourth best win-loss percentage among all NCAA Division I teams entering the weekend.
The Hornets have won by 3-0 scores 12 times and taken 42 of 44 sets during the win streak. Overall, DSU is 55-7 in sets played this year, including 18-1 in MEAC matches.
Delaware State also improved to 11-0 at home this season.
In today's contest, the Hornets had season-best .411 attack percentage and held SC State to a -.053 mark, the second-worst for a DSU opponent this season.
Delaware State tallied 39 kills and tied for a season-low with just nine errors on 73 attacks in the match. The Bulldogs had just 12 kills and 15 errors on 57 attacks in the match.
The Hornets were No. 1 in the nation in opponents' hitting percentage at .110 entering the weekend. DSU held NC Central to a .087 mark on Friday before today's effort against South Carolina State.
The Hornets also recorded 11 aces today, tying for their third-best total this year.
DSU's Kristi Gomez led all players with a season-high 12 kills on 19 attacks for a .579 hitting percentage in today's contest. Halo Yoshiki came off the bench to finish second on the Hornets with seven kills, while Kelsie Dawson had six kills on nine attempts (.556).
Sydney Lewis, the MEAC leader in blocks entering the weekend, led all players with five today, including two solo. Mayah Ngundam added four blocks, one solo.
DSU's Jasmal Cruz had a match-high 12 digs, her eighth straight contest with 10 or more.
The Hornets return to action at Morgan State on Friday (Oct. 15). Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Baltimore, Md.
DSU is back home next Sunday (Oct. 17) to face MEAC preseason favorite Coppin State for a 3:00 p.m. match.
