The Game
Delaware State takes a pause from Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play to visit Drexel of the Colonial Athletic Association. The Lady Hornets are coming off a 60-45 MEAC victory over Coppin State on Tuesday, snapping a three-game slide.
Sha Collins (sr.) came off the bench to lead all players in scoring with 14 points, while
Daije Harris (gr.) came off the bench to add 11.
Demi Moore (sr.) pulled down a season-high nine rebounds in the game for the Lady Hornets. DSU led by five after three
quarters and outscored the Eagles 24-14 in the last 10 minutes to seal the win. The Lady Hornets also forced Coppin State into 33 turnovers, the most by an opponent this season. Delaware State has forced 116 turnovers in its five games and has turnover margin of +7.2. For the season, Collins is tops on the team and 12th in the MEAC in scoring at 11.0 points per game.
Janasia Law (sr.) is second on the Lady Hornets with a 7.8 point per game average. Collins and Law are also tied for the team lead with five three-point field goals each, while Law has a team-high 12 assists. Forward
Zoe Holmes (sr.) averages 6.4 points and is a top five MEAC rebounder at 7.2 per game.
Drexel is coming off back-to-back victories at UNC-Wilmington last weekend. The Dragons won the first game 76-63 and posted a 61-34 victory the next day to complete the sweep. In the second contest, Drexel outscored UNCW 20-4 in the third quarter to take control of the game. Hannah Nihill combined for 31 points in the two games, while Kayla Bacon and Maura Hendrixson also reached double figures in scoring in each contest. For the season, Nihill is the team's top scorer at 16.8 points per game. She also leads the Dragons with eight three-point field and is second on the club with 15 assists. Keishana Washington averages 13.5 points per game to rank second on the team. Drexel is holding opponents to 48.8 points and 33.5% shooting from the field this season.
DSU vs Drexel Series History
The Hornets and Dragons are meeting for the first time since the 2017-18 season, and seventh time overall. Drexel has won the last two meetings to open up a 5-1 series lead. The teams last met on Dec. 3, 2017 at Delaware State. The Dragons won the contest 73-52. The Lady Hornets' lone win in the series was a 54-46 victory on Dec. 18, 2003. DSU is 0-3 in games played at Drexel.
