Norfolk, Va. (Jan. 30, 2021) --- Norfolk State knocked down 10 three-point field goals in the first half to spark its 99-64 win over Delaware State in a MEAC North men's basketball contest at Echols Hall today. Joe Bryant led all players with 24 points, highlighted by six three-pointers (6-9), while Devante Carter added 18 points and Jalen Hawkins 17 for the Spartans.
Myles Carter (sr.) was high man for Delaware State with 19 points. Carter has reached double figures in scoring in seven straight and nine of his 10 games this season. He leads the Hornets in scoring at 15.2 points per game to rank sixth in the MEAC this season. In addition, Carter leads the league in free throw shooting at 89.7% (26-for-29).
Zach Kent (so.) was the only other Delaware State player in double figures with 11 points in the game on four-for-six shooting from the field, including two-of-three on three-point shots. He also blocked his 13
th shot of the season in the contest.
Bryant had 19 first half points on five-for-seven shooting from the field, each from three-point range, to lead Norfolk State to a 48-23 advantage at the break.
The Hornets nearly played even with the Spartans in the second half, only being outscored 46-43 in the final 20 minutes.
Norfolk State shot 53.4% for the game (31-for-58), compared to 47.2% for Delaware State (25-for-53).
The teams were scheduled to play again on Sunday at Norfolk State, however, the game has been postponed due to the forecast for heavy snow along the east Coast Saturday night and Sunday.
Delaware State is scheduled to play again this Wednesday (Feb. 3) against Lancaster Bible College in a game just recently added to the schedule. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in DSU's Memorial Hall.
