The Game
Delaware State is looking to end a four-game slide and close in on the MEAC North leaders this weekend. DSU is currently tied with Coppin State for third in the division at 1-3, two games behind co-leaders Howard and Morgan State,Ā  The Lady Hornets are coming off an 86-59 loss to MEAC South leader North Carolina A&T at home last Sunday. DSU led 16-15 after the first quarter and was only down 35-29 at the half, but outscored 51-30 in the final 20 minutes. Daije Harris (gr.) had a break out game for the Lady Hornets, coming off the bench to lead all players with 21 points (5-9 FG; 10-13 FT) in 23 minutes. Kiana Coomber (sr.) also came off the bench to add eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.Ā  Also on the bright side,Ā Delaware State shot a season-best 86.4% from the line in its last contest, knocking down 19-of-22 at the stripe. The Lady Hornets are No. 2 in the MEAC in free throw shooting at 73.2% (82-for-112). For the season, Sha Collins (sr.) is DSU's top scorer at 8.3 points per game. Janasia Law (sr.), who sat out last Sunday's loss to NCA&T,Ā  is having a good all-around season, ranking second on the Hornets in scoring (6.3 ppg), tops in assists (25), fourth in rebounding (4.6 pg) and tied for first in three-point field goals (7). Forward Zoe Holmes (sr.), who also sat out DSU's last contest, averages 6.3 points and is the No. 11 rebounder in the MEAC at 6.3 per game.

Howard Ā is tied with Morgan State for first place in the MEAC North at 3-1. The Lady Bison have been idle since back-to-back division wins over Coppin State on Jan. 16 & 17. Howard won the first contest 60-52 and completed the weekend sweep with a 60-51 victory the following day. Howard ranks second in the MESC in scoring at 68.8 points per game. Jayla Thornton (sr.) is tops on the team and fourth in the MEAC in scoring at 13.9 points per game. Thornton had a season-high 29 points in a win over Richmond on Dec. 22 and poured in 26 points in the Bison's season opening victory against Mount St. Mary's. Anzhane Hutton is eight in the league with a 12.3 point per game average.Ā Ā Ā Ā 

Delaware State vs Howard Series HistoryĀ  (Howard leads 52-31)
This is the first of four scheduled meetings between the teams this season. Howard has won the last four meetings, including a 76-71 victory in the lone 2019-20 contest in Washington, D.C. The bright spots for DSU in last year's contest were a 13-point, 13-rebound performance by Janasia Law and 13 points in 12 minutes for Melissa Sam, who was six-for-eight from the field. The last win in the series for the Lady Hornets was on Jan. 11, 2016, posting an 87-86 win in Dover, Del. DSU's last victory at Howard was on Jan. 12, 2015 (58-50). The Hornets and Bison are also scheduled to meet on Feb. 27 & 28 at DSU's Memorial Hall.
